The article deals with the geography, history of study and the environmental condition of the Guselsky-Teterevyatsky ridge - the highest in the Volgograd region and one of the highest in the Volga upland. This priority in the modern era belongs to Volgograd geographers, including the staff of the geography and geoecologydepartment of the VSSPU.

The author points out numerous changes of borders and areas of the territory, which became the modern Volgograd region. It also deals with the territorial growth and administrative structure of Stalingrad - Volgograd, which became one of the largest administrative and industrial centers on the Volga.
