Comedy by A.P. Chekhov “The Cherry Orchard”: to the issue of interpretation of Chekhov’s plays in the film by Sergei Ovcharov “The Orchard”
The article deals with the motives of the play by A.P. Chekhov “The Cherry Orchard” and their transformation in the film by S. Ovcharov “The Orchard”. The author describes the way the length of time, the image of the orchard, the image of the estate, the sound of a broken string, etc. reinterpreted by the director allow the author of the film to amplify the meanings of Chekhov’s works.

Semantics of space in the story by A.P. Chekhov “Tumbleweed”
The article deals with space in the story by A.P. Chekhov “Tumbleweed”. The author studies the semantic and functional aspects of the motives of leaving and the way, the image of Svyatogorsky monastery, covers the features of the regional aspect in description of the South of Russia. It is shown that the space in the story “Tumbleweed” as the combination of landscapes and topos becomes the essential way to summarize and characterize the national life.

Cossack theme in the creative work by A.P. Chekhov: the story “The Pecheneg”
The images and realities of the Azov region are reflected in the creative work by A.P. Chekhov. The story “The Pecheneg” covers the difficult attitude to Cossacks. The Cossack world as the “alien” one is represented not only by historical and everyday realities but also by spatial images which are considered in the folklore and mythological aspect.

Paradoxes of the fiction space in the story by A.P. Chekhov “In the Native Home”
The space images of the story “In the Native Home” are regarded in the folklore and mythological aspect. The ambivalent meanings of “steppe” and “native home” start unexpected relations forming not only the fiction space of the story but also its composition and sense. The character of the story is absorbed with the steppe and lead into a deadlock. Hopes for a better life do not come true. That makes her dramatically accept the reality.
