The article explores the process of formation and evaluation of general competences of university graduates, including their readiness to solve professional problems. The author looks upon effective selection of education tools suitable not only for control and evaluation of the learners’ performance, but also for stimulating the learners to achieve good training results. The specific features of the use of the portfolio technology for the formation and evaluation of the learners’ general competencies in the realization of the main professional educational program at the university are considered.
