The article deals with the issues of motivation of industrial workers in the transition to the New Economic Policy (NEP). The points made in the article are based on factual materials of the Lower Volga region. The author traces the evolution of the wages of industrial workers from equal salaries in kind to piecework wages. It is emphasized that the government was ready to raise the wages of workers, even in a situation of economic instability.
