The article highlights the problems of identifying the old Russian religious groups, which traditionally included religious subgroups such as Khlystyivism, the Judaic, Molokanism and their numerous branches. The author indicates the absence of clear criteria for sect classification. The proposed by A. L. Lvov definition of the Judaic as a textual community is analysed. Analogies with the Khlyst sect are drawn.
