The article deals with the problem of terminological differentiation of linguistic notions "concept", "field" and "frame". The author determines the reasons for unjustified equcation of their meanings. The nature of the relationship of these key concepts in modern linguistics is explained by the mechanism of production of the speech utterance. Differentiation of the above terms allows us to consider (and use in practice) a frame as a scheme for establishing the field of linguistic signs that verbalize the concept as the total knowledge about an object or a phenomenon.
