The article explores the differences between the dialectal and normative vocabulary which are traditionally revealed by phonetic and grammatical criteria. The author proposes to use denotative and connotative components of semantics as well as the insight into cultural and historical reasons to reveal the discrepancy. The results of linguocultural studies of dialectisms are presented, the role of dialectisms as translators of extralinguistic knowledge is shown.
