The article presents the experimental study of lexical semantic and stylistic characteristics of vocabulary from the standpoint of the systematic approach. It is revealed that the meanings of the words with lexical semantic synonyms are more expressively and stylistically marked than the meanings of words without such synonyms. There is a relation between marking of the meanings of words by various classes of stylistic marks and the word polysemy.
