Based on the famous work by E.S. Novik “The System of characters of Russian fairy tales”, the article deals with the semantic features that determine the “individual status” of the characters of Kalmyk fairy tales from the repertoire of Sandzhi Butaev. The analysis of the semantic features indicate that a character of Kalmyk fairy tales embody those semantic features that create conflict situations and are played within an episode or the entire story.
