The article deals with the new format of exercises for mastering the translation skills. It presents the basic formats of dealing with the tasks that allow using them as a simulator in the process of teaching military technical translation in a military polytechnic higher school. The methods of using the translation tasks for successful training in professionally-oriented translation are described by the example of the language pair (English - Russian) and the results of the experiment on testing this type of exercises in practical classes are evaluated.

The paper represents the comparative analysis of the grammar, lexical and phonetic structure of English and Spanish, provides the survey results, describes the comparative method in practical classes of Spanish for specific purposes.
