Based on the theory of V. Propp, the article deals with the actions of birds as the character’s assistants in the Kalmyk fairy tale. The actions of a mythical bird Khan Garuda are a spatial movement of the character from one world to another, and the solution of difficult tasks. Very often in fairy tales an eagle gets help from the character before it gives it to him. The assistants are magpies, ravens, sparrows, roosters, chickens and ducks. The range of the parrot’s actions as a character’s assistant include solving Khan’s difficult task.
