The article deals with the potential of a proper name as a source of associations. The author describes the personal names of various types based on denotation and the source of nomination: eponym terms, nomenes, nicknames, precedent names. The material is supplemented with the results of the survey aimed at identifying the typical associations connected with the names of famous athletes.
