The article deals with the features of modern business emails in the Russian and German academic discourses. It highlights a number of communicative and pragmatic, stylistic and compositional features of teachers and students’ emails, deals with derogations from the standards of business letters in the academic discourse, the features of emails when reducing the distance between a teacher and a student.
