The article deals with the genesis of the concept of "modular technology" in student training. The author proves that the preparation of bachelors will be more effective if the discipline "Practical course of the English language" will be based primarily on the competence and problematic approaches based on the principles of modular training and technology, whose aim is to prepare learners for effective speech communication in English to achieve their professional goals.

The article deals with the auditive competence of students based on the material of the practical work of students of the Institute of Foreign Languages, Volgograd State Socio-Pedagogical University during their practice period for acquiring vocational skills and experience. It is proved that the auditive competence is an important factor in foreign language interaction; digital technologies can be effectively used in training. The video course “Extra English” is used as the example.
