The article aims to identify the lexical and grammatical devices of expressing modality of possibility and impossibility in English newspapers. The subjective and evaluative factors in the fragments under consideration are proved to form the ideological system of views and values in reader’s mind. The linguistic devices with the seme of possibility / impossibility represented by modal verbs increase the effect. Based on the linguistic analysis, the modality of possibility / impossibility in newspaper articles has pragmatic meaning.
