The article deals with some key issues of phraseology, concerning the classification of phraseological units and stating the boundaries of the phraseological fund. The author considers the classification of H. Burger to be the most comprehensive and adequate to the modern state of the German language phraseology. The examined cases indicate the need to study the nominations that were considered to be marginal in practice of teaching foreign language and culture.
