The article presents the comparative onomasiological analysis of the names of TV programmes of the Russian and British TV. It describes the principles and methods of nomination of TV programmes, the dependence of the nominative preferences of name givers on the region of broadcasting of TV programmes.

The article deals with the linguistic status of TV programme titles as proper names referring to gemeronyms. By the example of TV programme titles on the British and Russian TV, the author proves that it is possible to research them from the view of pragmalinguistics and linguistic culturology.
