The article deals with the issue of national and cultural features of paremiological and phraseological units with the component “animal” in the Kalmyk and English languages. It reveals some semantic similarities despite various use of the images of animals in paremies and phraseological units; their quantity with the negative assessment is larger than with the positive one. The syntactic analysis shows that the paremies with the compound structure are the most characteristic type for the both languages.
