The article deals with the creative work by a prose writer M. Hansen who was a great Norwegian writer at the edge of the XVIII-XIX centuries. The author gives the review of the most significant works by M. Hansen. The research shows that Hansen could combine the most important literary traditions both of the XVIII century and the tendencies contemporary to the author. His creative work is of great importance for establishment of the Norwegian literature.
