The cognitive tasks are regarded as the basic means of research skills development. The author gives the classification of cognitive tasks (based on the quantity of skills, difficulty level and organization form), used at various stages of research skills development (motivation and preparatory, contents and activity, evaluation). The results that prove the effectiveness of cognitive tasks are described.
