The article presents an analysis of Chinese urban semiotics which makes it possible to trace the dynamic changes associated with social processes in Chinese society and to identify their national and cultural specifics. The study is conducted from the perspective of media urbanism, in which the city is interpreted as a complex communicative system, which is reflected in verbal and non-verbal semiotic signs.

The article deals with the origins of phraseological units chengyu in the Chinese language, formed with by means of lexical repetition. The author analyzes the structural models of four-morphemic chengyu with contact repetition as a word forming technique and distant repetition as a compositional and stylistic device performing the expressive, emphatic, rhythmic and intonation functions.

The article deals with the Chinese four-morpheme phraseological units “chengyu” with the aim to find out their structural and grammar features. The author examines the possible models of chengyu, which are built according to the subject-predicate, predicate-object, attributive, predicate-complement and composing type of syntactic relation.

There is considered the phenomenon of verbal reduplication as an important language mechanism of formation of the modern Chinese language. There is given the characteristics of the models of reduplication of one-syllable (АА, А -> А) and two-syllable (АВАВ, ААВВ, ААВ) verbs; there is revealed the semantic and morphological construction, determined the functioning peculiarities at the syntax level.
