The article deals with the semantics of phraseological units with the gender component in the English and Tatar languages. Having studied various views on the issue of the national features the author comes to the conclusion that there are national and cultural, national and conception,national and connotative features of the semantics of phraseological units. The features are not determined by the semantics of the gender component but depend on the figurative basis of a phraseological unit as a whole.

Theer is carried out the comparative analysis of reconsidered meanings of genonym components of phraseological units in the English and Tatar languages with the aim to find out the common and different in the semantics of genonym components, the peculiarities of reconsideration typical for each language, to find out the lacunas in phraseological systems of the languages that are compared.
