There is shown the new view on the use of decorative art in the work with preschool children. There are revealed the conditions for development of 4-7 year old children’s perception of a geometrized ornamental image: marking out its world outlook, value and sense, expressive levels; modeling of artistic environment; finding the parallels between ornament art and cosmogonic myths and legends.

There are described the methods to reveal the peculiarities of 4-5 year old children’s perception of the geometrized ornament art. There is given the quantitative and qualitative analysis of the results received at the primary level of organization of art perception by children. There is shown the possibility to develop the perception and comprehension of geometrized ornament art starting from the age of 4 and regarding the cosmogonic notions of people.
