Based onthe operational reports and the correspondence stored in the archives, the article presents the analysis of political sentiments of prisoners of war. It considers the way the political sentiments of prisoners of war werecontrolledby means of the secret service work and censorship of correspondence.

Based on the reports and correspondence kept in the archives, the author analyzes the protection of war prisoners and fight against their escapes in 1944-1949. The article deals with particular examples of the work of HR, the organization of service and combat training of the camp staff and the department for the prevention of escapes.

There is considered the citizens’ attitude to legislation authorities of various levels in the period of election campaigns of the second half of the 1930s.
