There are considered the peculiarities of verbal figurativeness in the story by F. Sologub “Worm”, which is based on the destructive potential of a word characterized as death by word or killing by word. By the example of transformation of the carnival word in the story “Worm” there is substantiated the thesis about anticarnival world view in carnival categories as the idea dominant of the decadent prose.
