There is considered the place and role of pleonasms in the Russian language of the XXI century, as well as the peculiarities of their functioning in oral and written speech of a modern Russian language personality. Based on the analysis of the language material there is made the attempt to create the typology of pleonastic units with consideration of the semantics, structure, syntactic relations and correlations between the components.
