There are analyzed the moments of divergence in Russian and author’s translated English texts based on the story by V.V. Nabokov “Spring in Fialta”. There is stated that the typical cases of deliberate neutralization of the nationally marked Russian expression include cultural allusions incomprehensible for English readers, ways of shortening the distance by means of diminutive suffixes and change of themes tabulated for Americans to their euphemistic correlates.
