There is analyzed the genre of small talk projected at the study of its separate aspects, considered the forms of phatic communication of the contact type. There is noted the significance of the small talk genre from the point of its functions as the regulator of communication, and in the aspect of translation as the possibility to comprehend its universal, global and specific, ethnically and culturally conditioned characteristics.
