There are considered the peculiarities of prefixing on the basis of the material of the prefixes re-/ре- in the modern English and Russian languages. There are determined the characteristic features of prefixes and their role in vocabulary enrichment of the languages, revealed the spheres where prefixes actively take part in formation of the new words.
