There are described the functional and style peculiarities of nicknames that function in the virtual discourse. There is suggested the analysis of the points of view on the interpretation of the term “nickname”, found out the peculiarities of their use in the modern linguistics. Based on the analysis of the language material there are sorted out the types of nicknames of the modern virtual Russian language discourse.
