There are analyzed the fixed expressions of the concept “to think” in the Russian and English languages from the point of its figurative potential and the ways of its phraseologization. There are considered the peculiarities of phraseological comprehension, the basic types of metaphoric and metonymic transfers.

There is investigated the semantic motivation in phraseology. Phraseological unit is regarded as a motivated language unit which meaning formation and image potential are influenced by various language means.
