There is regarded the poetics of the novel The Refractory by M.Y.Karpov (1898 - 1937) whose prose hasnt been republished since the middle of the 1930s. Special attention is paid to the principals of artistic interpretation of the village theme of the 1920s. There is shown the process of transformation of spiritual essence of Russian peasant consciousness as a consequence of village revolutionary reforms.
