There is considered the ellipsis as one of widespread modification types of phraseological units of literature origin. There is analyzed the ellipsis use with the purpose of speech economy, for making deceived expectation effect, for strengthening the emotional and assessing function of a phraseological unit, as well as euphemistic function.
