Based on the materials of German research in the field of pragmalinguistics, didactics and methodology there is described the basic regulations of functional and pragmatic approach to foreign languages teaching. There are revealed the criteria of functional and pragmatic orientation of the teaching process as well as the problems arising within the given approach.
