On the basis of the archival materials of State archive of the Ulianovsk region there is revealed the role of national houses in the Simbirsk province in education of the local population, unity of cultural strata of society, revealed the relations between cultural strength and Zemstvos owing to enlightenment. There is also reveled the role of national houses in Soviet power years and their new goals.

Out-of-school education, that is supplementary education today, appears to be a very important part of the educational space established in the modern Russian society. It is socially needed and it combines upbringing, education and personal development of a child. The author reveals the types and forms of the out-of-school education in the Simbirsk province on the basis of the archival materials of the State Archives of the Ulianovsk Region.
