The object of the research is the vocabulary peculiarity of the Russian literature tale in the first period of the genre development. Lexical units are considered from the point of view of the origin, sphere of use, their stylistic properties. The lexical organization of tales is analysed with its genre varieties: poetic tale-novella and prosaic works of the genre - literature versions and folk tale rendering.
