The article looks upon the doctor’s need for empathy as a linguistic and ecological factor in the relationship "doctor ↔ patient". The author considers the problem of establishing the required psychological contact with the patient by the doctor as well as building the most acceptable relationship with him on the basis of clinical and linguoecological aspects of activity, which is confirmed by the results of patient interviewing and linguistic analysis of television programs.

There is suggested the analysis of a medical document Medical Report. There are analysed the linguistic devices included in it, determined the main linguistic signs of a document as a form of written medical discourse. Discourse, use and understanding of MR terminology depends on the professional and communicative competence of a doctor.
