There are analyzed the Franciscan and Dominican tendencies of a sermon at the initial stage of its existence. It reveals the specific peculiarities of each of the mentioned directions, which are determined by goals and objectives set by the orders, as well as a creative method by some separate preachers. As a result, there appears the general context and some sort of prehistory of the Italian medieval sermon.
