The article is concerned with the peculiarities of teacher training in alternative schools in the United States. The author gives the concept of an alternative school in the USA and proposes a classification system of alternative schools. The main characteristics of charter, voucher and magnet schools are considered, the characteristics of the training of teachers of alternative schools in the USA are analyzed.

There is revealed and analyzed the positive and negative experience of secondary and higher education quality improvement in the USA in the XX century: introduction of standardized testing, finding out the strategies of education development, adoption of reforms and statutes.

There are considered and analyzed the main laws and documents approved in the USA in the XX century (“Immigration Law”, “Cardinal Principles of Secondary Education”, “Legal Defense and Educational Fund”, “Life Adjustment Movement” and others) and shown its influence on development of the secondary and higher education in the USA.

There is analyzed the system of education, considered the establishment and development of secondary and higher school in the XVII-XIX centuries.
