There are analyzed the critical assessments of the novel by E.Sue, given by S.Shevyrev and V.Belinsky - social antagonists, who used in the 1840s the common methodology in the approach to fiction works; there are considered the philosophical and aesthetic positions of critics, which determine their conclusions.
