There is analyzed the heuristic potential of the notion pact of reading (pacte de lecture) in connection with the purposes of investigation of pragmatics of narrative texts. There is suggested to consider the pact of reading as the implicit agreement between the author and the reader described as cooperation of the narrative and receptive code.
