There is considered the work of linguists of Volgograd State Social and Pedagogical University (SSPI, VSPI, VSPU) on research of the dialects of the Volgograd region starting from the first years of the higher school work till the modern times. There are sorted out the main directions of dialect research.

There are characterized the modern possibilities of information technologies in dialect material processing. By the example of two maps, made in the Internet project Lexical atlas of the Volgograd region, there is shown the possibility of complex linguistic and geographical research of the regional vocabulary.
