There is analyzed the work by Salman Rushdie “The Enchantress of Florence” from the point of view of its connection with the tradition of a picaresque novel. Main attention is paid to the interpretation of the image of a trickster and the composition of the novel. The canonical features of a picaresque are regarded in comparison with the English modification of postmodernism, which makes it possible to judge about the originality of the latter one.
